Gabriel’s Ghost by Linnea Sinclair: A Guest Review by CarrieS

Grade: D+ Title: Gabriel's Ghost Author: Linnea Sinclair Publication Info: Bantam Dell November, 2005 ISBN: 0-553-58797-8 Genre: Science Fiction/Fantasy Several people in the comments threads had mentioned Linea Sinclair as a great writer of Science Fiction Romance so I tried out Gabriel's Ghost. Guys, I am not getting it. Help me out here! The writing is solid enough, the world building is decent, but I barely made it through this book. What am I missing? Feel free to turn this plot synopsis into a drinking game - for there are many clichés to spot including an evil Empire that is TOTALLY NOT THE ONE IN STAR WARS. Grade: A- Title: A Lady by Midnight Author: Tessa Dare Publication Info: Avon 2012 ISBN: 978-0062049896 Genre: Historical: European As I have mentioned, I have a big ol weakness for "I don't want to like you, I don't want to like you, I can't stop thinking about your hair DAMMIT" romance. I love when a character has a Definite Reason to avoid getting involved with someone he or she desires. I love when the Definite Reason is deeply embedded in the person's character, when acting on the impulse that draws one person toward another means breaking a tightly held self-promise. I love when the tension stems from one person desiring another, and the other person feeling that desire and attempting to squish it down because it would be better for everyone if nothing ever happened. Whatcha Reading?

If you went to RWA last week, you likely came home with a big ol' selection of books. I saw many a person making the trek to the FedEx office in the hotel on the last day! And if you didn't go, I'm betting you learned about new books this week that you're really excited about. I made the mistake of starting FOUR different books and not finishing one of them yet - I hate when I buffet my reading like that, but when I travel, it happens to me often. I have to finish at least two before I start anything else. I ought to be strict with myself and finish all of them, but sometimes, curiosity gets the better of me, and I buy and start reading something I've been told about, or that grabs my attention. Oh, internet, you are so tempting with the book purchasing options!...
