Honors and Prayers

First and foremost let’s get to the prayers. If you’ve been listening or watching the news you know about the tornadoes that hit Oklahoma yesterday. It’s so tragic in the fact that lives were lost and homes destroyed. I sat and cried last night and this morning after seeing the devastation. It always affects me more when children are involved. They were so young. Please pray for those precious souls and their parents. Pray for the heroes working diligently to help. Prayer is what they need now. As for honors, I was given a very special honor yesterday. I was asked to be a sponsored author in the July issue Southern Writers Magazine on their Magnolia Corner page. The book that will be spotlighted will be “Rekindled Flame”. I’m really excited about this opportunity. Hopefully this post finds all of you well and safe. As storm season get’s into full...

A Smile is Worth a 1000 Words

Yep, that’s me with Country Music start John Berry. Now you know why I’m smiling. He honored our small country Church, Friendship Church,  with a concert last night. If you weren’t there you missed a huge blessing.  I’ve been a fan of his for a long time and seeing him live in such an intimate setting was EPIC. Am I still smiling this morning, well yes. My cheeks hurt from smiling. He’s such a down to earth person and so nice. His wife was just wonderful. He had his son on drums and he’s just adorable. The bass player and sound guy were awesome too.  Sometimes when you meet someone famous they’re just so snobbish and above you that you feel like an ant in their presence, but not the case with him and his gang. They felt like down home family and you felt like you’d known them...

What does you character sound like?

You may be saying, what is she babbling about now It’s simple really. What voice would you put with your main character if you had the chance? Well, I had to figure that out this week and let me tell you, it was a blast! What I’m talking about is audio books. An author recently mentioned I ought to try it out, so I did. I went to ACX.com and set up an account. It’s really easy and may I say extremely fun and exasperating too. After you give them your general information, then the fun starts. You have to put your book information in and an excerpt that you want someone to read for an audition. Yep, you heard me right, an audition. You actually have people sending you auditions on the account. But the fun starts when you have to put in the settings you want. Here are...

Reviews

Reviews can be fickle things. Some people pay big bucks to get reviews added to their books. Well there’s nothing wrong with that if they’re honest reviews. I’ve seen books that have several raving reviews but their sales ranking in terrible. Makes you think, was it worth the money? I’ve searched out sites where you just send out your book to a reviewer and that’s all it costs is the book. Do you have some sites that you use? Right now I’m not in the position to really pay for reviews, but it would be nice if some of the people that have read my books would give a review.  I’ve been receiving several reviews on the Barnes & Noble site and Kobo, but not many on Amazon. Some advice on how to get more on Amazon would be great. I’ve gone in and changed my categories on Amazon to...

Building a Platform…

For those of you that aren’t authors I’m not talking about a stage. I mentioned to my husband one day that I was trying to build my author platform and he started laughing. He asked me where I was going to put it and what was I going to say when I got up on it. I then explained to him that a author platform is the advertising, blogging, etc. you do to get your book out there. He still thought it was funny. MEN! When I first started publishing I wasn’t very computer savvy. Of course I knew about accounting programs and such but not the intricacies of publishing, Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, and all that goes with it. Since then I’ve developed blogs on several sites and now I Tweet everyday. It’s funny how your life changes when you become a published author. Here are the top ten places...

The Day RT came to me

Take a look at these two fabulous women.  The lady on the left is Lindsey Ross, voracious romance reader, and my cyber BFF. she has been a cheerleader and my beta reader, pointing out my strengths and weaknesses in my manuscript. She let me know what she liked best (my characters Dex and Viscount Grentham-right Lindsey?), and what needs work. She has recently begun her own blog, Romance Reader Girl, and I know she will be wonderful, as she understands and loves Historical Romance and is interested in promoting new and upcoming romance authors.  :) The marvelous lady on the right is none other than Renee Bernard.  I discovered her books several years ago, with “A Lady of Pleasure.”  It was about a Duke.  Who was a rogue. And he was presumed to be a killer. You know I was all up into that book.  It is great!  Naturally, I...

{Book Review} And the Miss Ran Away with the Rake (Rhymes with Love, #2) by Elizabeth Boyle

From Goodreads Daphne Dale never could have imagined that when she answered an advertisement in the newspaper that she would find true love. Now she has the opportunity to meet her unknown suitor, but it means traveling to Tabitha’s wedding, and into the heart of her family’s sworn enemies. Everyone knows the Seldons are terrible rakes and bounders, but Daphne will risk anything to gain the happiness she is certain is right around the corner. Lord Henry Seldon is aghast at the latest addition to the house party guest list—one would think after the unforgettable scandal Daphne Dale caused at the duke’s engagement ball, she wouldn’t dare show her face at the duke’s wedding. But here she is, poking her nose where she shouldn’t and driving Henry mad . . . with an unforgettable passion that will turn enemies into lovers. And the Miss Ran Away with the Rake by...

To press or not to press, that’s the question…

It’s really a hard question for an author. Do you publish your work or do you go back over it several times and then decide? Sometimes I think we over analyze our writing, trying to make it perfect. To be honest it may never be perfect. I’ve caught myself doing just this with one of my works in progress. It’s funny how we’re more critical than the worst reviewer. Any work you do needs to be read at least twice, and one of those times needs to be out loud. When you read out loud it brings about another reality. Just make sure that you get someone else to read your work. That person needs to have a open mind. As I work on my newest work I wonder, will someone really want to read this? What’s rewarding is when I hear from people asking when my next book in...

Teaser Scene From Things Good Girls Don't Do!

As You Wish! Finished my second read through so here it is, your teaser from Things Good Girls Don't Do! “You looked like you could use another.” Katie’s head snapped up from her list and she covered the napkin quickly. “Hi Chase. What are you doing here?” Stupid question. Why else did someone go to a bar? To drink. He slid into the seat across from her and passed her the mojito. “Shop’s closed Mondays. Didn’t feel like hanging out at home. And you? I don’t usually see you here unless you’re with your friend Steph.” She tried to act casual, but the way his eyes keep shifting towards her hand was making her heart pound with anxiety. “I didn’t have any food in my house and didn’t feel like grocery shopping.”  “So you chose to come to a bar on a Monday night?” He said dryly.  “They have great chili...

Friday, it’s finally here…

Anyone that works during the week look forward to Friday. It’s the final day of the work week for most people. It’s the day that you usually do a little less as your mind gets ready to shut down for the weekend.  Funny thing is as a writer your work is never done. You work when everyone else sleeps. You work in the evening, morning, lunch time, and anytime you can spare a moment. I sat last night half watching television and half working on a current work in progress. My family knows that when the laptop goes in my lap that it’s work time. My laptop stays on my desk in my office all day doing accounting and then to my lap at night.  Friday’s are laid back in my office. I have several payrolls to complete but usually I shut down early if possible to get my son...
