An eRead on the Beach: Winning the Wallflower

Its funny how one can be completely organized in planning a trip but at the end, overlooked in preparing for the beach. With just a cooler and picnic blanket in our hands, my family and I trenched through the sun and sand. Since we don’t live anywhere near non-chlorine water, I knew the first day would mainly be in the ocean. With the short time that I still had, I chose Eloisa James’ novella, Winning the Wallflower to read on the beach. The odds were against Lucy, as she was plain and tall. Needless, she landed the very proper Cyrus Ravensthorpe and it didn’t take long for her to be helplessly infatuated. But she knew the feeling wasn’t reciprocated. An unexpected inheritance, gave Lucy a chance to marry for love. Even though she was new at this, does a broken engagement usually lead to kisses by one’s own former fiancé?...

An eRead on the Road: Seducing Mr. Kinghtly

The past weekend was a holiday weekend and my family picked the perfect time (said sarcastically) to venture out to our next location of our trip. I wasn’t assigned as the driver for the six hour ride (weakly volunteered to) and so I enjoyed the free time to disconnect from the internet- and just simply read. For the first round, I picked Maya Rodale’s newest, ‘Seducing Mr. Knightly.’ Dear Annabelle has been answering readers perplex questions on her advice column, from addressing a duke properly to table manners. But a past writing deadline convinced her to take a chance and ask readers instead, to help her with her own secret (or not so secret) problem. Annabelle Swift has been desperately in love with the editor of The London Weekly but has done so at a distance. Derek Knightly has never really noticed Annabelle but her lower-cut bodices have started to....

Just Spotted!: My Notorious Gentleman

The last time I bought a book was back in 2010 (I couldn’t believe it myself!). Shortly after I bought my first eReader and from then on it has been ebooks or library books. Life became busy and these days going to a bookstore meant coffee dates. Recently, it became clear that the wonder of being in a bookstore (like a kid in a candy store) only happens to me when I visit one on vacation! During my last browse, I was surprised by an early release of one of my anticipated books of the summer! Available on July 30, ‘My Notorious Gentleman’ by Gaelen Foley centres on the warm-hearted vicar’s daughter Miss Grace Kenwood who isn’t impressed by the former spy and her new neighbour, Lord Trevor Montgomery. A crowd of beautiful admirers had simply push this shy miss off to the shadows. But a case of mistaken identities...

An eRead in the aircraft: An English Bride in Scotland

For me boarding a plane is stressful enough, from trying to fit carry-ons overhead to calming my nerves as the airplane starts to fly. There are also distractions with movies playing or picking snacks from the flight attendant. It’s seriously hard to be comfortable on a plane, let alone be able to concentrate. The light entertainment that An English Bride in Scotland brings makes it a great choice to read during a flight. Living in the convent for most of her life, Annabel Withram knows what the future holds once she takes the veil to become a nun. Rigged rituals, hard labour and extreme conformity –exactly how she was presently living. But an overnight return to her childhood home quickly changes her predictable life to an uncertain one, as she will now take the place of the bride to her runaway sister’s wedding! An isolated life didn’t prepare her to...

Something Borrowed: Surrender to the Earl

I’ve always believed that for a romance novel to capture my attention, the characters must have believable sexual chemistry and a handful of seductive scenes. When I have a book in my hand, I actually take a sneak peek in the middle just to see how the author had wrote those scenes. From that quick glance, I already made up my mind if l would like this book or not (this is one of the reasons why I’ve used my eReader more and more). However, I guess, once in a while there comes a book that makes you remember why the genre is called, romance. ‘Surrender to the Earl’ by Gayle Callen is that type of a reminder. In ‘Surrender to the Earl’, Audrey Blake always believed that her blindness shouldn’t be in the way of her independence. Unfortunately, her family doesn’t see that way. With her patience running out,...

An eRead: Truly Madly Yours

The increase use and popularity of digital copies has led to the re-publication of books along with modernized book covers. When you don't follow an author as closely as you should, you can get confused on what's actually a new release or re-issued book. This is what happened with me and 'Truly Madly Yours' by Rachel Gibson. I actually had a different view of the book until I realized it was published in 1999 (her second published book). Rachel Gibson's 'Truly Madly Yours' tells the story of a former Truly, Idaho town local, Delaney Shaw, who is bound to inherit her stepfather’s fortune; but in condition that she stays in the gossip-thriving town for a year and not have a sexual relationship with the well-known bad boy, Nick Allegrezza.. No problem, Delaney hates him anyway. If only she could erase that steamy night with him on the hood of his...

An eRead: Royal Bridesmaids

Just in time to kick off the wedding season! 'Royal Bridesmadids' directs the attention away from the bride to the women at the side lines. Stephanie Laurens tells the story of a jilted bride who runs into her former groom at a royal wedding that she's trying to save. Gaelen Foley places her lady in waiting in a time limited situation. Loretta Chase's herione must defend her sister's royal marriage to an unlikeable man. Anthologies are supposed to be short, yes, but the featured stories here were too short to develop true significant plots. In my opinion, this anthology has been arranged only as a marketing tool. A marketing tool for seasoned authours that likely has loyal followers. This is why I had a chip on my shoulder at this particular anthology. I felt that sample chapters were prioritized before the stories were written. It was like the stories were...
