Writing Erotic Romance – Word Choice

This post has adult content. If you are under the age of eighteen years old or sensitive to adult language/situations, please do not read this post. Words are one of the key tools we, writers, master. Word choice sets tone, conveys meaning (often multiple meanings), changes stories. There are some great posts by great writers on what we should consider when choosing words. Today, I’ll be talking about erotic romance specific words. YES, the naughty words! The words no one really talks about yet everyone knows are important to our stories. Does Your Word Exist In Your World? No, I’m not referring to made-up words, though we should be conscious of these also. I’m talking about whether or not your word exists in your character’s world. When was the word invented and was it in popular use at that time? Fuck didn’t appear in the written language until the late...

ARC Review: The Gunslinger by Lorraine Heath

Although I know that Lorraine Heath is an accomplished author I had my doubts about liking about this novella. I’m glad to say that I was wrong. This was a great story and the characters were really fantastic. Usually I read Heath’s historical romance because I really love them. This story takes place in the Wild West. Chance Wilder, adequately named, lives his life as a hired gun. He is rumored to have killed over twenty-eight people. His life is a serious of chances. Every fight he gets into is a chance to life or die. He has no home and drifts from town to town helping the people that hire him. Chance is hired by Toby, a young fourteen year old to save his sister Lillian. Although Lillian is in a very dangerous situation she thinks that she can take care of herself. When Chance rescues her she is...

The Washington Post recommends The Wedding Vow!

The Washington Post has recommended my upcoming release, The Wedding Vow, as one of October’s best new romance novels! My fellow Avon author Sarah Maclean pens a monthly book review column for the newspaper, and in her latest entry she had this to say about the heroine and hero of my new book: This is a classic enemies-to-lovers romance, and the two are deeply reluctant, very entertaining partners. Once Adam and Maddie discover their mutual attraction, it’s only a matter of time before they discover mutual admiration, “unexpected, unfathomable. No warning, no net.” Their fall is as fun as it is satisfying — for heroine, hero and reader alike.  A nice review is always appreciated, but I find it especially gratifying when another novelist, particularly one as terrific as Sarah Maclean, praises my work. Thanks, Sarah!
