TBT: Tempted by the Night

Thought I’d go with my paranormal, haunted, ghoulish, monster/Jane Austen story, Tempted by the Night, for Halloween Eve. So many people have asked why I decided to write historicals with paranormal elements, and I have to admit that I never set out deliberately to do it, rather the story/series idea would not go away and haunted me until I wrote them. So after writing the first one, His Mistress by Morning, I knew I would never escape without writing Hermione’s story (well, make that Rockhurst’s). I got so many emails about him, pleading for his story, something that didn’t surprise me in the least. I sort of suspected that might happen when I was writing Mistress. Sometimes a character steps off the page and takes a place in your heart. Like I said last week, Temple, from my Danver’s series, was another such character. The very moment Rockhurst came striding...

A Gingerbread Recipe from Jenny Colgan, author of Christmas At The Cupcake Cafe

Merry Christmas! Ok, not really. I'm just getting in the mood as we visit with the author of the adorable new book Christmas At The Cupcake Cafe... Jenny Colgan! Jenny's new release is the second book in her Cupcake Café series. Today, Jenny is sharing a yummy recipe for Gingerbread. Take it away, Jenny! Gingerbread This is not for gingerbread men, which is more of a cookie recipe as it has to stay hard and crunchy. And it is not for gingerbread houses, unless you have endless time on your hands and (let’s say it quietly) are a bit of a show-off who would rather their cakes were admired than devoured. No, this is old-fashioned soft, sticky gingerbread. It doesn’t take long to make, but you’ll be glad you did. NB Oil the container before you fill it with treacle. Otherwise you and your dishwasher are going to fall out...

We’re challenged to write 50,000 words (200 pages) in 30 sleepless, Nutella-fueled days. (My handle is http://nanowrimo.org/participants/cynthia-sax if you’d like to Friend me) These might be Alice In Wonderful fucked up beyond belief words but hey, they’re on the screen and that’s a great thing. Why? Because blank screens are the epitome of evil. They’re a writer’s kryptonite, representing many of our insecurities. Can I write this new story? Is this idea any good? Do I have another story in me? Oh my God. Will the words ever come? First Draft Shit Vs Submission Draft Magic Much of this blank screen...
