Lizbeth Selvig’s The Rancher and the Rock Star
Lizbeth Selvig’s The Rancher and the Rock Star is an RWAGolden Heart winner under the title Songbird.
I don’t read much contemporary romance, and I’m pretty sure this is the first Christian romance I’ve read, so keep in mind this is not my genre. At all.
That said, Selvig has a talent for describing the heroine’s 40 acre ranch setting. While I wasn’t quite sure what Abby did for a living until about halfway through the novel, I felt welcome in her Midwestern home during the opening scenes. Authenticity issues got to me once we entered the Hero’s world. Description began to feel gratuitous, if not forced. Inaccuracies jarred me out of the burgeoning love story. I would have liked to see more of that space used to build some emotional connection between the lovers.
