Margaret Carroll
Margaret Carroll is currently at work on her fifth novel, a tale of suspense set in NYC and the village of Quogue, one of the Long Island beach communities that comprise the Hamptons.
The first of her thrillers, A Dark Love, received a Star Review from Publishers Weekly (7/13/09) and will be released as an Avon mass-market paperback in September. The next, Riptide, will be published in October.
In addition, she has written and published two romantic comedies, The Write Match (2006) and The True Match (2008), both from Avalon Books.
Carroll writes fiction part-time in addition to being a full-time mother and homemaker. Her fiction builds on 20 years of global public relations and journalism experience. She has served on award-winning marketing teams, as president of an industry organization dedicated to raising standards for public relations professionals, and has traveled the globe.
She was founder and sole proprietor of Carroll Communications, a successful marketing and P.R. consultancy in Santa Fe, New Mexico, that represented several of the region's leading attractions.
From 1998 until summer of 2000, she was Director of Advertising and Public Relations for The Luxury Collection and St. Regis hotels, a group of 57 four- and five-star hotels owned and operated by Starwood Hotels & Resorts of New York. Starwood also owns the Sheraton, Westin, W, and Four Points brands.
Immediately prior, Carroll was a member of the North America Public Relations management team for 10 years for British Airways, based in New York City, with several secondments to the company's worldwide headquarters in London and frequent overseas travel around the world. She earned a Silver PRSA Award in 1998 for her work to publicize the raising of a half-scale mode of the Concorde in Times Square. She was voted president of the North American Airline Public Relations Association in 1996, one of very few women at that time to hold that post.
Before joining British Airways in 1988, Carroll worked as a business trade journalist covering aviation and luxury travel. She worked at Corporate Meetings & Incentives magazine, and served as editor of E.F. Hutton's daily worldwide Investors newsletter, as aviation editor of Travel Agent magazine, and as assistant-to-editor at Standard & Poor's Daily Record. Carroll earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and has completed numerous writing seminars and workshops.
She resides with her family now in Michigan in a 75-year-old Tudor house that is a great place to write. They live with Buddy, a Scottish Terrier, who makes sure the mice stay outside.
