Hi, ladies! Somehow I missed this post the other day. My apologies!

Congrats at being the debut Avon Inspire writer! When did you first realize that you wanted to be a writer? Was it when you were young?

Thanks, Megan! It’s lovely to see you here (I still really love your ink!). I’ve written stories since I first put pen to paper, oh, lo about forty years ago. :) It took me a little longer (and another career) to realize I am truly happiest writing fiction.

Hi! Was it tough for you to write this book? Or did the inspiration come easily?

    • KatharineAshe837 says: March 14, 2011 at 3:14 pm

Hi, May. The inspiration came during a telephone call with my sister before I went to teach class one day (I’m also a professor of history). I called her up and said, “Which secondary character in SWEPT AWAY BY A KISS [my debut novel] should I write a short story about?” We considered a few, and then I thought, “Wait! I know who!” But that character, Lady Patricia Morgan, actually hadn’t made it into SWEPT AWAY BY A KISS in the end; I’d cut her scene in a rewriting along the way. Nevertheless, I adored her. And I had just the perfect hero for her, and the dreamiest, most sizzling story of first love lost and the delicious reunion years later. For me, it always begins with those two perfectly matched hearts. After that, the rest comes easily. :)

What made you want to write about pirates?

  • MicheleGardner says: March 8, 2011 at 11:08 am

Your books sound so wonderful that I will have to add them to my To Buy list and get them. I like the title A Ladys Wish. It sounds wonderful.

    • KatharineAshe837 says: March 14, 2011 at 3:18 pm

Thanks, Michele! My mom came up with the title straight from the pages of the story itself. (Yay, Mom!)

As for pirates, most of them really were a nasty lot. For my debut novel, SWEPT AWAY BY A KISS, I’d thrown my hero and heroine together as hostages on a ship, and pirates were the ideal villains for that. But I simply adore Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner–honorable pirates with hearts of gold. So for CAPTURED BY A ROGUE LORD I created Alex Savege, indolent rakish earl by land and noble Robin Hood-like pirate by sea–a rogue perfectly primed for a lady’s reforming touch!

Hi, Katharine! I’m curious to know what first inspired you to write and what genres of books you liked as a child and what genres do you like today? Best of luck on your writing career!

Hi, Connie. Thanks for your kind wishes. :) I read all sorts of books, but I am particularly fond of historical romance and historical fiction. As a child I read lots of animal stories, for instance one summer I powered through the entire Black Stallion series by Walter Farley. Recently I realized that, whatever I read as a girl and young woman, it always came back to the strong, noble hero — whether he was a horse or a boy or a man, LOL!
