Hero Want Ads

It’s time for part 2 of Tessa’s fun Desert Island Disc Lists!!

Today we’re talking Heroes. As in, what do you like your heroes to do? (Not that! What kind of job do you like your heroes to have! Get your mind out of the gutter… We’re running a family website here.)

Here are my top five hero occupations:

1. Heir to a Dukedom.
Now that’s a fun job. You get to have a really cool old desk, preferably in a slightly dark but very delightful study, count sheep and villagers, and order people around all day. That’s all there is to it, right?

2. Join the Navy!
There’s a reason my favorite show on television is NCIS (even if I like McGee the best.) Also, see Lisa Marie Rice’s FATAL HEAT. An ebook novella on sale right now for $1.99!

3. Vampire
What? You think being a vampire isn’t hard work? You try drinking blood without permanently damaging your victims and staying out of the sun while looking studly and brooding all the time.

4. Werewolf
See #3 but replace drinking blood with scratching one’s ears

5. Local Police Chief
Who is more fun than the local police chief? (Second only, of course, to the local lawyer who came back from the big city to help those in his home town.) He’s hot, he’s law-abiding, and he’s got handcuffs.

Carpenter – I need new kitchen cabinets.

I think you need to add to that list 1. Highland Laird or warrior (uhm, yeah, a man in a kilt with a claymore strapped to his back!). 2. Spy (How to woo the woman you adore without revealing you aren’t who you portray yourself to be and without losing the girl in the process). 3. Second in line to inherit (a man that must forge his own way in life). 4. Pirate (Captain Jack Sparrow, need I say more?). 5. The young(er) widower (who marries out of necessity but falls in love in the process). I could go on and on and I realize that not all of these are actual “jobs” but these also fit the role of “hero”.

    1. Pirate- I’d make a joke about booty but that would be inappropriate.
    2. Vampire- But not the sparkly kind, that would freak me out.
    3. Athlete- Minus the cheating gene.
    4. Fireman- Something about those suspenders.
    5. Cowboy- A man who knows how to work with his hands.

There’s quite a bit of inappropriate things I want to say about each occupation but I’ll keep it clean. I do enjoy dukes, the occasional shifter or two.

Tessa, it’s never too early in the day for our minds to be in the gutter – it’s why we love romance. ; )
Wow, you’ve got some great jobs for your heroes and I agree wholeheartedly. Having grown up around military men, I have a special soft spot in my heart for any man who wears a uniform – nothing more handsome than a Marine in full dress. My literary heroes run the gambit from mysterious dukes to shapeshifter warriors but I think my all time favorite hero has always been a sea captain! I love the ocean and I suppose I’ve always secretly wanted to be swept away by some hard-working man of the sea who will take me on his world travels – and owns his own ship, of course. : )
