‘Tis the Season to Get Behind a Good Cause
December 14, 2010

It is my week to blog, but I am always happy to share the job. Especially for the City of Richmond, which is sort of a spiritual home for me ever since I attended the U of R. Please welcome Cathy Maxwell:
Having a novel out with such a great, holiday cover inspired me to wonder what I could do in my hometown (I live right outside Richmond, VA) to generate a little holiday spirit. I’m fantastic friends with Kelly Justice of the beautiful Fountain Books (www.fountainbookstore.com), located in Shockoe Slip — and together, we came up with a fun idea to do good for a great cause (The Children’s Hospital of Richmond), and to spread a little Christmas love.
We’re asking our friends and neighbors to bring Christmas Pleasure to the Children’s Hospital of Richmond: now through December 15, we’re urging everyone making their gift shopping rounds through the Richmond area to stop by Fountain, and donate an unwrapped toy, which will go to one of the little ones, in a drive sponsored by the Children’s Hospital. The first 100 people who drop off a toy, a doll, a truck, a puzzle, a game (or anything that will make a child’s eyes shine bright), will a free signed copy of my new bestseller, HIS CHRISTMAS PLEASURE.
(We’re urging people not to delay! Not only is Christmas right around the corner but we’re hoping those one hundred books go fast!)
If you live outside of the Richmond area, I ask you to look into toy and gift drives in your hometown. It’s the season to give to those in need: and bringing a smile to a little one’s face will bring one to your heart. I promise!
Love,
Cathy

Brava Cathy!! I live just north of you in Stafford and so a little too far to drop off a toy but thank you for helping the kids. Next week, my husband and I will do our annual Santa visit to the homeless shelter so Santa (my 6’4″ hubby) can meet and greet with the kids. My husband’s employer donates the cash for Mrs. Claus (me) and some of the elves to shop, wrap and deliver gifts to accompany Santa’s visit. It’s such a joy to see the smiles and excitement on the kids’ faces even the ones who are not too sure about such a big Santa. I take lots of pictures, one of each kid with Santa and a couple of the Shelter workers always get their picture taken with Santa too. : ) This is what puts the Christmas spirit into Christmas for me.
I hope every one of your books is gone by the end of the drop off time (only wish I could have gotten one) and there ends up more gifts delivered than books given out. Thanks for your generosity and best wishes to you and yours for a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Btw, I love knowing one of my fave authors lives just down road! : )
