Vacation, All I Ever Wanted…
August 18, 2010
August is the month where people in publishing get the heck out of Dodge. Carrie and Tessa have both left the building this week, May is jetting off sometime soon, and I just returned from Jamaica. Now, allow me to make you all jealous with my photos.
This is the view from the restaurant we ate at every day. Service was very slow, but it really didn’t matter.
This was sunset that first night, also as seen from the restaurant. I’ve never seen a sunset quite like this one.
My friend brought an enormours inflatable duck. I was skeptical when she told me the plan, but let me tell you–that duck was a hit. And yes, that is the ocean right next to the pool.
We were all there for a wedding and while storm clouds did roll in, the result was this amazing double rainbow! (The day before, we saw a perfect circle rainbow surrounding the sun.)
Way in the distance, you can see a cliff just past that blue umbrella.
And that’s me, being stupid enough to jump from that cliff. I also jumped from a bridge, and another cliff. Jamaica makes you brave!
So that was my vacation! I loved getting to spend time with my friends, seeing two of my favorite people get hitched, and eating a lot of delicious food…but I’m a book person and we cannot be stopped. So I also spent a lot of time quizzing everyone on what they were reading and why. This trip was dominated by Eat, Pray, Love and the Stieg Larsson books. Personally, I read The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest and Loretta Chase’s Last Night’s Scandal.
So now it’s your turn: what did you do on your summer vacation? And more importantly, what did you read?

What a great vacation, Esi! And what lovely photos– thank you for sharing! I’m glad you had such a marvelous (and daring) time. Love the duck!!

Poor, poor Miranda. Get to work!

OMG I want to go there! What great photos (and great books to read too). Some of us aren’t having summer vacations. Some of us have books to finish while our editors are living the good life. [sniff]

Miranda, that has got to be so unfair! There should be a rule, when author’s working hard, editor’s around to provide moral support.
Then again, perhaps you can think of Esi relieving your stress by jumping off cliffs on your behalf. You can visualize that and be relaxed.

Love the gorgeous photos, Esi! I went to Jamaica years ago and seeing the pics brought back memories. And yeah, it’s no hurry there. LOL. No problem . . . Thanks for sharing!

Esi, you’re a brave, very brave person. Jumping off from any height above water, requires an, ah, leap of faith. But you took the true “let’s leave reality behind and immerse self into joy” kind of vacation.
Love the pictures! And a circle rainbow. How cool is that?! I’ve seen double ones in a horizon to horizon semi-circle, but never something like this.

Wonderful photos for what sounds like a wonderful vacation. How dreamy. I love Jamaica. I haven’t been further than the Jersey Shore. I get a tan, but there are no double rainbows. While at Ocean City this past weekend, I was completing 32 Candles by Ernessa Carter.
