RWA Recap with Carrie!
August 09, 2010
We on the Avon Staff are all back from the Romance Writers of America annual conference in Orlando, Florida. Sadly, the closest I ever was to a theme park was a character breakfast with Goofy (and yes there is photographic evidence), but lots of fun things happened at RWA this year. I cannot list them all, but these were my highlights.
First, Meg Cabot was there! Not only did a delegation of Avon staff take her to the brand new Harry Potter world, but we gave every conference attendee a copy of her outrageous and wonderful anti-Vampire book INSATIABLE.
Then at the Literacy for Life signing, Susan Elizabeth Phillips gave away wedding programs featuring her new book, CALL ME IRRESISTIBLE, on sale in January 2011. The giveaways were snatched up like hotcakes, even though her faithful assistant Charlotte could not assist Susan this year.
Sarah MacLean, author of NINE RULES TO BREAK WHEN ROMANCING A RAKE, was able to sign at Literacy for the first time this year knowing that we have six more books to come in the coming years! Congratulations Sarah.
Eloisa James was able to celebrate her amazing amazing new fairy tale book A KISS AT MIDNIGHT with me a Shulas. Low point, when we were offered the “meat tray” featuring a 48 oz steak. High point? The Cakebread wine and knowing that the next book WHEN BEAUTY TAMED THE BEAST is on the way.
Then Julia Quinn won the best historical Regency Romance RITA for the third time, placing her in the hall of fame. There was a huge celebration afterward at Shula’s steak house.
More tomorrow!

Sounds like a great time and I’m sorry you didn’t get a chance to visit DisneyWorld or Universal … next time, right?
Carrie, I’ve got a question … is there someone we can contact about problems with registering/logging in and the newsletter?? I first registered to receive the newsletter so long ago, I don’t remember. Since you’ve had the new look, I registered and signed up for the newsletter again (about the 7th or 8th time) but the problem seems to be in that I never receive a confirmation and link back to complete either registration. I’m glad I can still comment without being logged in but I would like to get the newsletter. Thanks. I do have to say, I kind of like the older version better but I’m easy! : )

Hi Amy–thanks for alerting us to a problem with the newsletter sign up. Not quite sure what’s going on there. I’m checking with our digital powers-that-be, so I should have some info soon.
