A Highland Duchess, Brigadoon, and Books

Yesterday, UPS delivered a few packages to me. Remember, I’m an online gal from way back. Of the three boxes, the one that delighted me the most was the one containing the books I’d ordered.

When I get a book I anticipate reading, it’s like Christmas. You know the feeling: your heart pounds, your eyes light up, your breath comes quickly.

Wait a minute.

Why does the song: “Almost Like Being in Love” come to mind right now?

Now, isn’t that clever of me? “Almost Like Being in Love” comes from the wonderful musical Brigadoon, the story of an enchanted Scottish village that comes to life once every hundred years.

Now, A Highland Duchess (here’s where I’m clever) doesn’t have anything to do with a Scottish village, but it does take place in Scotland. And it does have a Scottish hero, Ian McNair. And the “in love’ part is definitely covered.

Whether you buy your books in a store or online, I hope you feel the same kind of excitement I do when I anticipate reading. Oh, and if you happen to start humming “Almost Like Being in Love”, I totally understand.

Though I do like the song “Almost Like Being in Love”, and will probably be humming it in the days to come, I still haven’t gotten the last tune you suggested in a blog post out of my head. I’ve been singing parts of Lady Gaga’s “A Bad Romance” for a couple of days now.

    “I want your love
    Love-love-love
    I want your love…

    Oh-oh-oooh-oh-oh!
    Caught in a bad romance…

    I want your loving
    And I want your revenge
You and me could write a bad romance…

    Oh-oh-oooh-oh-oh!
    Caught in a bad romance…”

My husband’s starting to get a complex. ;)

Singing “Almost Like Being in Love” might be a nice change for him.

“What a day this has been! What a rare mood I’m in!

Why, it’s almost like being in love!

There’s a smile on my face for the whole human race!

Why, it’s almost like being in love!”

Karen, I remember Brigadoon was a pretty good musical–an oldie but goodie–though, well before my time. ;) It had a good storyline to it, with the enchanted Scottish village that comes to life once every hundred years… and who doesn’t like a Gene Kelley movie? I haven’t seen it for years so, like Dalila G, I’ll have to hunt up a copy to watch again.

Oh, and I, too, get very excited when I get new books. And it doesn’t matter whether I bring them home in a bag or they come right to my door in a box… I just can’t wait to touch them, sigh over the pretty covers, and smell that new book smell… and I love the little thrill I get just thinking about deciding which one I’m going to read first.

I’m sooo looking forward to getting a copy of your new book A Highland Duchess on July 27th … just about 2 weeks away now… Yay!

But, I have to tell blog readers that I already know 2 things for certain…

    1) Karen Ranney never has, and never will… write “a bad romance”!

    and…

    2) Karen Ranney’s new book A Highland Duchess, unlike the fictional town of Brigadoon, will NOT vanish into the highland mist, never to be seen again for a hundred years. When you pick up your copy on the 27th you can put it on your “keeper shelf” and cherish it forever. :)

I love getting books, in the mail or at the store.
I especially like my books when the cute UPS guy delivers them! LOL!

I can’t wait to get my hands on A Highland Duchess, the story of Emma and Ian sounds very romamtic.
Your excerpt was a nice little tease, now I need to know what the heck is going on!

I haven’t seen the musical Brigadoon, I’ll try and locate a copy on dvd and watch it if I can, thanks!

Happy reading, I know I will pretty soon! :-)
