Day 3 of “Guys As Gifts” – It’s Gerard Butler Day!
June 23, 2010
Welcome back once more, my friends, to Day 3 of Avon’s “Christmas in July” as we celebrate great summer romance reading with a raffle each day this week for all participants who tell us what famous male celeb(s) you want Santa to leave in your stocking!
Today’s Prizes:
Desire Untamed (Book 1 in the Feral Warriors series) by Pamela Palmer
The Sweethearts’ Knitting Club by Lori Wilde
So, it’s Hump Day (ahem) and appropriately enough, today is officially dubbed Gerard Butler Day here on the Avon Blog “Christmas in July” Celebration of Summer Books. *g* See why below!
So here’s the gist of the game, ladies!
In my July release, MY DANGEROUS DUKE, the hero, Rohan, the Duke of Warrington, (who could be played by The Gerard, if we gave him long hair) is given the heroine, extra-spunky Kate, as a gift (See video to the left of your screen, dear reader!). This story premise that got me wondering who I would want as a gift if someone were to give me a present along these lines…and I thought it would be funny to ask readers and some of my author friends:
If someone were to give you a hottie of the opposite sex, who would you want to be given, and what’s the first thing you’d make him do?
So, hey everybody, here come our Wednesday authors! As you will soon see, great minds think alike, even in sub-genres as diverse as contemporaries, paranormals, and historicals.
First up, say hi to Pamela Palmer, NY Times Bestselling Author of dark, riveting paranormals! Her July release is called RAPTURE UNTAMED. Now I know that title alone is enough to make us all stampede to the bookstore, not to mention your alpha male hero as described in the back cover blurb, (excerpt here) but oh, my goodness, that cover is seriously hot!
Judging by your covers, I’m thinking you know a thing or two about man candy. (Guys, you can enjoy the view at www.pamelapalmer.net.)
So, what do you think, Pam? (Wait for it…)
Pamela Palmer says:
LOL! My answer: Gerard Butler. I’d put him to work planting shrubs along the side fence (shirt off, naturally) while he regaled me with tales of filming Phantom and 300 in that lovely Scottish brogue of his. I’d be reclining in the shade nearby with a tall glass of iced tea, which I’d share, of course. : ) Heaven!

Gaelen: Oh, my. I like that image, but he made one bad-ass Greek king, too, didn’t he? Who says ancient history is boring? Any country where warriors spend their days walking around half-naked in those little togas, what can I say, I’m moving there. Who’s with me??
This is SPARTA, lol.
Any more Gerard Butler fans in the house? I think I see one…!
Hey there, it’s Lori Wilde! Lori’s contemporaries are fresh, fun, and sexy, and her latest, THE TRUE LOVE QUILTING CLUB, came out a little earlier in the season—April to be exact, but this busy author is not resting on her laurels. When she’s not penning bestsellers, she’s teaching cutting-edge writing workshops. (You can learn more about her classes at www.LoriWilde.com or read an excerpt of her latest book here.)
So, Lori, what say you?
Lori Wilde: Oh this one is easy!
Gerard Butler as he looked in Dear Frankie and I’d make him give me a looong hot stone massage.
Gaelen: Stone massage! Why didn’t I think of that?? Love it, lol.
Ok, readers, now it’s your turn!
It’s Christmas in July—Who do you want Santa to leave in your stocking and what’s the first thing you’d make him do?
Leave your answer below and you’ll be automatically entered in the raffle for the day’s book giveaways!
Thank you all for being so very WELL-BEHAVED (I’m relieved, lol). You all deserve vouchers to Almack’s for being such perfect ladies. I appreciate everyone trying to keep it fairly clean. And once more, husbands and boyfriends don’t count! A guilt-free, calorie-free summer pursuit, just like a good book!
Enjoy…

Gerard Butler and only Gerard Butler for me

Unfortunately I am rather insanely obsessed with him.
Ever since I saw The Phantom Of The Opera.
If I got Him, I’d Make him sing for me nonstop
Love Him <3<3 -

Do you have to take a guy now or an I go back a few years. I’d probably pick George Clooney either way, but would prefer him about the time he left ER. I love both his looks and the humor he’s always injecting into things. Would I love a hot massage from him.
-
Jacqueline C. says: June 24, 2010 at 1:45 pm
Gerard is hot! Out of all of his films, I’d have to say I found him sexiest in 300. He was so ALPHA in that one! If I received him, I’d make him take me home…

Gaelen,
I don’t see day 4 of “Guys as Gifts” and I won’t be back till tonight so I wanted to add someone to our ever expanding lists of beautiful men. I was listening to music this morning and I thought, … of course! The sexiest man with the most beautiful voice and by whom I wouldn’t mind being haunted, yes, I said HAUNTED … the one, the only, the man I’ve loved since I was a little girl … I still love you … Elvis Presley!!!

Ok. I want Nicolas Cage. I have this weird attraction to him. I think he hot and I don’t even know why; I just do. The first thing I would have him do is talk to me about how he felt about all those crazy hairstyles he was forced to wear, specifically the ‘do from Conair. He’s hot me, stupid hair and all.

Oh Gerard would be on the list..So would Matthew McCaughney and I have had a thing for Josh Lucas every since I seen him in SweetHome Alabama… And Colin Firth and Hugh Jackman would be on my wish list too…
I think I this first thing I would have them do is pour the champayne and feed my strawberries… while we are reclined in bed after…
-
Heather says: June 23, 2010 at 8:40 pm
David Wenham. He is the guy that plays the narrator and loses his eye in 300, and is Faramir in LOTR and the very bad friar in Van Helsing.
I would have him do yard work in shorts, cuz it is soooo hot here in Vegas.
-
Kammie says: June 23, 2010 at 8:20 pm
Johnny Depp for me, please. I need some adventure and a few laughs.
I like that guy on the cover of Pamela’s book, too. Hot, a bit mysterious and dangerous looking, too. Enough to make a girl want to see what is beneath that cover. hahaha!
-
Pam P says: June 23, 2010 at 7:42 pm
Ooh, I love Timothy Olyphant on Justified, very sexy Southern boy!
Pierce Brosnan is another favorite, back from his days as Remington Steele. Another cutie who’s character reminds me a bit of Remington Steele is Neal, the art thief on White Collar, played by Matt Bomer. But Tim Dekay who plays the Peter Burke, the federal agent on White Collar is also very appealing and sexy in a more mature way.

Every day is Gerard Butler day! LOL
As usual, the book was sooooooo much better than the movie, however, Gerard Butler’s portrayal of Merick in “Timeline” was spot on!!!
Then there was Phantom of the Opera….(((swooning onto my fainting couch while fanning myself))) Ohhhh my!!! Sing to me Gerry! LOL -
Sue Brandes says: June 23, 2010 at 7:21 pm
I’m picking Gerald Butler too. Love his accent too.
-
Virginia C says: June 23, 2010 at 7:19 pm
Every day is “GB” day for me : ) He’s a naughty boy with great talent and charm, and a big, big heart! He loves his Mum and his pug dog. “GB”–gorgeous green-eyed Scottish Devil!
PS I LOVE YOU had three hunks–Gerry Butler, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (aka gorgeous naked Irish guy in the cottage), and Harry Connick, Jr.
Oh, my! GIMMEE TIMMY! I love Timothy Olyphant and Justified!
One more shout out for the love of my life, Sam Elliott : )
The day would not be complete without mentioning my favorite Irish import…Pierce Brosnan gets better and better and better as the years go by. That’s saying a lot because he was so delicious from the very beginning! I have been a great PB fan since he starred in “Remington Steele”, one of my all-time favorite TV shows! Pierce is funny, charming, handsome and very talented. He’s also a devoted husband and father. To top of all that, he works for numerous environmental causes. Last, but not least, he’s a just an outright gorgeous Irishman!

Jean Bock says: June 23, 2010 at 6:53 pm

Ladies, I’m chiming in on this very late – just found out I was invited to take part in this blog but that the invitation sort of got lost in the mail ; ) At any rate, I’m an Avon author with a new book on the shelves – SUGAR CREEK, which is Book 2 of my Destiny series and at a bookstore near you right now ; )
As for who I’d like as a gift, I’d have to go with one Mr. George Clooney. George and I have a lot in common, like that we dropped out of the same university ; ) Seriously : ) And from that you can draw the conclusion that we both grew up in the same general area, and yes, I know where his parents live, and no, that doesn’t mean I drive by their house repeatedly just in case George stops by for a visit ; ) I was fortunate enough to see George in person when he did a movie premiere nearby a couple of years ago, and I can report that he is just as handsome and good-natured in person : ) So anyway, that’s my long winded answer.
And … although I hesitate to admit this, I don’t really get the Gerard Butler thing. Please don’t throw tomatoes or let that make you decide I’m clearly an idiot and you shouldn’t read my books ; ) I’m just tossing it out there for the sake of honesty : )
-
Annie Marshall says: June 23, 2010 at 7:32 pm
Don’t worry Tori, no tomatoes, just haggis!

Thank the Almighty we don’t have the same tastes or we’d be in trouble. I feel the same way about Harrison Ford. My mom and sister go nuts about him. He’s an extremely talented actor and I love the roles he’s played, but I just can’t look at him and think, “Oh, how wonderful it would be to kiss that man.” LOL-
Gaelen Foley says: June 23, 2010 at 7:40 pm
LOL Toni, I think Gerard Butler will be happy that at least one woman on the earth will not be in the stampede of the rest of running down the road after him.
I’m so glad you got a chance to stop by. Sugar Creek looks wonderful!

Hmm, My pick for today would have to be: Paul Newman (Specifically in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof)..He was gorgeous.
The first thing I would make him do: Make him give me that smoldering look he was always doing in all his movies. He had a way of squinting his eyes just so and making you forget everything besides him.-

Gerard Butler all the way! If you haven’t seen him as Atilla, you owe it to yourself to check it out! Filmed as a mini-series it’s four hours of him with long hair and no shirt. Plus it was a good movie. The writers took a few liberties with history, but he was awesome in the role.

Oh my, I would definitely want Johnny Depp, without a doubt. I think he is an exceptional actor, father, and “husband”. He is very versital in his acting an he is just “drop dead gorgeous”!!! What is the first thing i’d make him do? Oh, I can’t answer that! LOL! That’s just too naughty.

I won’t ask for much this 3rd day of Christmas-in-July
I don’t even wish for snow.
I’m just gonna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe…All I want for Christmas-in-July is…
THE EVANS BROTHERS. Yes, brothers… Gorgeous MAX & Hot THOM of the Glasgow Warriors Rugby team.
Oh, I wanted to save the best for last, for the last day of this wonderful celeb-from-Santa week. But since it seems like the topic of todays blog is GERARD BUTLER, I figured I’d introduce more gorgeous SCOTTISH men to you all.
Anytime I read a novel that has a gorgeous, dark haired, chisel chested Adonis/hero… I picture one of these 2.
As to what I’d like to do with them? Being a bit of an artist… I’d love nothing more than to have them model for me. Preferably MAX…
For more gorgeous Europeans, I recommend looking up the athletes from Dieux Du Stade 2010… or well, any of them. WARNING: VERY RACY PICTURES… But they’re all jaw dropping gorgeous men. ENJOY, LADIES!

I like the idea of it being Gerard Butler day … there are so many hotties out there and he’s definitely high on the list with all my other picks but he’s worthy of a day of his own. My fave role for him is actually the most non-violent and sweet … Gerry in P.S. I love you … yummmmmy and sooooo sexy, especially when he did that first kiss scene ((fanning my face)) … of course, that movie brings to mind another dreamboat who could help me with home projects with shirt off, and then sing me to sleep … Harry Connick, Jr. There goes those hot flashes again … whew!

Ria Ritchey says: June 23, 2010 at 1:10 pm
Eric Dane or Alan Rickman. Today I’m in the mood for someone who is passionate yet a bit on the darker side and heaven knows these guys have played those parts before. And didn’t exactly look bad doing it!
What would I have them do? It’s raining outside today so I think it’d be a perfect day to snuggle out on a sun-porch and talk about the random things that come to mind. At least until we get wild and reckless and decide to dance in the rain!
Thank goodness its hot even when it rains here, so the shower of rain would be warm and fun.
-
Lois M. says: June 23, 2010 at 12:29 pm
See, I would pick GB too. . . but ah, well, he has to dress as the Phantom, plain and simple. LOL
I like some of his movie, some others not so much, but he was my introduction to the whole Phantom world, and is my favorite Phantom, so if he doesn’t show up at my door as the Phantom, well, okay, sure, probably still would open my door to him. LOLLois
-
Anne Stone says: June 23, 2010 at 12:15 pm
Oh baby, it would be Gerard Butler for sure. Too bad I can’t post a picture of my office wall. It is 5’ x 4’ of Gerry! Clippings, posters, magazine articles – the wall causes quite a stir when people come through.
It was Gerard Butler who led me to send Lori Wilde an email after I read one of her books in which she compared her hero’s looks to GB. I contacted her because I loved the book and I also wanted to say “Yea, Gerry!” Anyone who likes GB must have great taste. It’s like a sisterhood of Gerard Butler fans…so of course, that sealed my bond with Lori and I became a loyal reader of all her books.
BTW, if you want to see Gerard Butler with long hair you should see the movie Attila. It was the first movie I saw him in and I was hooked. Talk about sexy! The movie is average at best, but who the heck cares, it’s worth sitting through to see his penetrating blue eyes and his toned, tanned, half-naked, glistening body on a horse, handling a sword, and romancing the women.
So what would I do with Santa’s gift? Hmmm, if I answered this question 4 years ago when I first came down with Gerryitis, I would have come up with some sexy plan to get him naked and whispering sweet talk in my ear in that gorgeous brogue. In my writing imagination that could happen. Right? Sigh~
However, now I think I would be very happy to have a nice dinner and conversation (flirting mandatory) maybe introduce him to my daughter who is planning to study acting next year in college. She could pick his brain about the ups and downs of the industry while I sit back and enjoy his voice and appreciate his beautiful eyes.

Thanks for the tip! I wonder if they have that one on Netflix.
Gerard Butler has that one that’s on Pay Per View now,
some sort of crime movie, but mmm I dunno, I don’t like super violent movies, like they kill his little kid and his wife, I dunno, it looks pretty brutal.Something with “Citizen” in the title? I think he’s a vigilante or something in it. I love ya, Gerard, but not enough to traumatize myself!

Gerard Butler is very very dreamy but see here’s the deal with me. I’m a hard-headed Italian-American girl [proved twice on my vacation to my dad's motherland a few weeks ago] and I’m STILL going with my picks from Monday…with an addendum.
Landon Donovan [GO USA! Beautiful goal today!] Either I just like a clean cut good boy or I’m just too into soccer right now to care about anyone else. I believe he’s the go-to guy to complete any “Honey do” list I have.
Daniele De Rossi – Team Italy. He’s my bad boy I want to tame. Although he learned from the elbow 4 years ago, he has the tendency to say whatever he pleases. With his voice, I don’t care if I never know what he says. He’d be the one to um…drink wine and just have fun with.
Here are my addendums:
The guy from the movie Letters to Juliet. He was a bit of a jerk at first, but any man willing to climb to the balcony has got my vote. He can…well…just talk. [And he was British so I'd understand him].
My sentimental but married favorite….Alessandro Del Piero. He has a hot name, he sings, plays soccer and hell if he cooks too I have a complete package. I’d have him sing and see if he takes requests. “Fever” anyone?
-
RobynL says: June 23, 2010 at 11:43 am
Gerard Butler can come to me when he’s finished with the others who requested him, lol. I’ll take him. By then he could just relax with me by the pool and feed me strawberries dipped in chocolate.

-
Melanie says: June 23, 2010 at 11:15 am

I think for Day 3 I ask Santa for Sean Bean in my stocking. Yeah, yeah, I know, he’s gotten into some scrapes in recent years, God love him, but I’m loyal like that.
Sean, quit playing such scary villains. I can’t watch those movies. LOL.
